Boudoir Photography FAQ: Everything You Need to Know

If you’re considering booking a boudoir session, chances are you have a lot of questions. And that’s completely normal! Boudoir photography can feel like a big step, especially if you’ve never done anything like it before. Whether you’re nervous about what to expect, wondering what to wear, or curious about the final products, I’ve got you covered. Below are some of the most common questions I get about boudoir sessions, along with honest answers to help you feel confident and ready.

What is boudoir photography?

Boudoir photography is an intimate style of portraiture that celebrates your beauty, confidence, and individuality. It’s about capturing you as you are, whether that’s playful, sexy, soft, bold, or a mix of everything. While the word “boudoir” might make you think of lingerie, it’s not a requirement! This is your session, and we can tailor it to reflect your personality and comfort level.

Boudoir isn’t about trying to be someone you’re not—it’s about celebrating who you are, right now.

I’m nervous. Is that normal?

Absolutely! Almost everyone feels a little nervous before their session. Stepping in front of a camera can be intimidating, especially in an intimate setting like boudoir. But here’s the good news: those nerves usually disappear within the first few minutes.

My job is to guide you through the entire process so you never feel lost or unsure. From the moment you arrive, we’ll create a safe, supportive, and fun environment where you can relax and just be yourself. You don’t need to know how to pose or feel confident right away—that’s what the experience is for.

Do I have to wear lingerie?

Not at all! While many clients choose to wear lingerie, you’re not limited to that. You can wear anything that makes you feel confident and comfortable. Some popular options include:

  • An oversized sweater or t-shirt

  • A silky robe

  • A fitted dress

  • A favorite pair of jeans paired with a simple bralette

  • Nothing but a cozy blanket

Your wardrobe choices should reflect your personality and what makes you feel good. We’ll discuss all of this during your consultation to make sure you feel fully prepared.

What if I don’t like my body?

This is one of the most common fears women have when they book a boudoir session, and it’s completely valid. Society has conditioned us to be hyper-critical of ourselves, but here’s what I want you to know: your body is beautiful, exactly as it is.

You don’t need to lose weight, hide your stretch marks, or change a single thing about yourself to deserve this experience. My job as your photographer is to highlight your best features and show you how truly stunning you are. Trust me—when you see your photos, you’ll realize that all those insecurities don’t define you.

Do you provide hair and makeup?

Yes! Professional hair and makeup are included in all of my boudoir sessions. My talented team will work with you to create a look that enhances your natural beauty and makes you feel incredible. Whether you prefer a soft, natural look or something bold and glamorous, we’ll make sure you’re camera-ready.

Plus, having your hair and makeup done is a great way to relax and ease into the session. It’s a little pampering that sets the tone for the day.

Will you help me pose?

Absolutely. You don’t need to have any experience in front of a camera to rock your boudoir session. I’ll guide you through every pose, showing you exactly what to do with your hands, where to look, and how to position your body for the most flattering angles.

We’ll also take breaks to check in and show you some of the photos as we go, so you can see how amazing you look and feel even more confident.

Can I bring someone with me?

If having a friend or partner with you will help you feel more comfortable, you’re welcome to bring them along. Just keep in mind that this session is all about you, so it’s important that their presence feels supportive and not distracting.

That said, many clients choose to come solo so they can fully immerse themselves in the experience without any outside influences. It’s completely up to you!

What products do you offer?

After your session, you’ll have the option to turn your photos into stunning keepsakes. Some of our most popular products include:

  • Handmade Leather-Bound Albums: Luxurious and timeless, these albums are perfect for preserving your favorite images.

  • Folio Boxes: Elegant and versatile, these boxes allow you to display or store your prints beautifully.

  • Metal Prints: Bold and eye-catching, these are perfect for displaying your favorite image as art in your home.

All of our products are made with the highest quality materials and designed to last a lifetime. They’re more than just photos—they’re tangible reminders of your strength, beauty, and confidence.

What if I don’t want anyone else to see my photos?

Your privacy is my top priority. I will never share your images without your explicit permission. After your session, you’ll have complete control over which photos—if any—you’d like me to share. Many clients love having their photos displayed in my portfolio, but it’s entirely your choice.

I’m not confident enough for this. What if I’m awkward?

You’re not alone—so many women feel this way before their session. But here’s the thing: you don’t need to feel confident to have a boudoir session. The session itself is designed to help you find that confidence.

As for being awkward, that’s my specialty! I’ve worked with clients of all experience levels, and I promise you’ll look amazing. I’ll guide you, encourage you, and make sure you feel supported every step of the way.

How far in advance should I book?

It’s best to book your session at least 6–8 weeks in advance, especially if you’re planning to give the photos as a gift. This allows enough time for your session, image selection, and delivery of your final products.

If you have a specific date in mind, like a birthday or anniversary, let me know, and we’ll work to accommodate your timeline.

What’s the next step?

If you’re ready to book your boudoir session—or if you have more questions—just reach out! We’ll start with a consultation to discuss your vision, answer any lingering questions, and get you excited for the experience.

Boudoir is about more than just photos. It’s about celebrating yourself, reclaiming your confidence, and capturing a moment in your journey that you’ll treasure forever. You don’t need to feel ready or perfect to take this step—you just need to say yes to yourself.

I can’t wait to show you how incredible you are!
